  1. Fantastic showgrum, ladies.

Interesting that no-one really mentioned any gay role models in the music industry, such as Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters, Melissa Etheridge, and so forth.

  2. You zany gals have a rather distorted view of rural America. Not to discount Andy’s experiences because everyone is different, but I lived four years as an out and open gay man in a tiny southern town in North Carolina, in the absolute middle of nowhere, and I never once encountered any kind of intolerance or hostility towards me. This is even where we adopted our four kids. Everyone was tolerant, accepting, friendly and eager to help us out in anyway possible…personally, I’d go back in a heartbeat if I had the chance. I have no doubt that there was homophobia down there but it wasn’t expressed to me so therefore, it really wasn’t my problem. I think my point is that your life is what you make of it. Andy may hate where he is but just up and moving to a huge city doesn’t necessarily mean it will be better. There is just as much hatred, intolerance and homophobia in the cities as in the country…sometimes I think even more so. (Vera confirmed this with her talk about Hollywood being run by homophobes) I’m not all that familiar with Andy’s situation but if anyone hates their surroundings so much and sees only hatred and intolerance in those around you…well then it’s time to surround yourself with new people. That doesn’t necessarily mean a new location either. Your problems will follow you wherever you go…deal with em!

Sorry, I don’t mean to sound “preachy” here. This was a great grum as always!

  3. Great show, fascinating conversation. I liked how you pointed out the lack of gay role models in mainstream media. And although that may be true, I have found great gay role models in podcasting. In my opinion all three of you are amazing gay role models. The first one I found was Ragan Fox, then he led me to Eat This Hot Show, which resulted in me becoming a fan of Madge and Wanda’s shows. Then Auntie Vera popped in via Madge and it kept going. Now I know many gay role models, albeit they’re in podcasting and not mainstream, but I know that this country has a strong gay presence. You see it in Madge, Wanda, Ragan, Vera, Mark Baratelli, all of you are trying to bring this media up and use it to spread our message. And I love you for it.

  4. I would submit Rachel Maddow as a superior role model who is now part of the mainstream media.

Jack Plotnik is also an openly gay actor who works quite regularly.

  5. OMG I just love the stammer stutter montage at the prelude to the showgrum! I was laughing out of control through the whole intro theme. PERFECT!

  6. Post Exposure Prophylaxis should be started within 72 hours of exposure. I have personally had the unpleasant experience of doing the regimen and it is indeed a regimen of several toxic medications taken for at least 4 but up to 6 weeks several times a day. Try and talk to the most knowledgable AIDS medicine physician so you get the right cocktail. I initially visited an ER in Seattle in 2001 and they were using an ancient regimen that included AZT. When I went to see the big gay doctor on the hill he just shuddered when he found out what they’d given me. The experience of taking the pills was horrific. Like having a ghost in the machine feeling. Insomnia, icky bowel stuff, stomach problems, that sort of thing. And I dont believe there are a lot of stats for efficacy and I understand its not a sure thing but its better than nothing.

ps someone please re-think this font color, its nearly impossible to see/read and appears very faint

  7. I *FREAKIN’* LOVE the new layout, font color, splash graphic… LOVE IT LOVE IT – you three ladies have style and class.

(Don’t respond to this comment – it was nice and boring.)

  9. Half of your people are dead or should be.

Why not just select a few who are your living heroes?

Throw in Jesus, while you are at it…he used to hang out with 12 men.

  10. Rachel Maddow should be mentioned. Though I did find her on the list from pjob. I thought she should be more individually mentioned. Thanks for Eat This Hot Show ladies, it’s good stuff.
